Baby Card For Sydney

By Myrna Irwin

Maddy couldn’t wait to get into the world a month early so her new baby sister had to beat her and come 2 months early! So far, she’s holding her own! We’re soooo excited we are going to see her (and of course the rest of the family) very soon!

I just had a birthday and we went over to Red Rock. A large lake near here. We did a little hiking while there. I found a butterfly that was so willing to have its picture taken.

Madyson’s Four Drawer Christmas Card/Project

I have to say the last three Christmas projects have required a great deal of time. I also have to say they have been the most gratifying projects I’ve done too! I’ve been wanting to make one of these Four Drawer projects for a long time.  Since I knew that Drew was going to be taking it back to school with him I knew I had the time to make it. Definitely will do it again!! I found the tutorial here. There are going to be a lot of pictures so I’ll get right at it. I have to say this was one of the hardest project to photograph.

The first with the easel card closed.

Second is front view of drawer.

Third is easel open view.

Fourth is a side view.

Fifth is a view of two of the drawers.

I’m finally done with Christmas! I have my next project ready to go but life has sure been getting in the way. LOL I was going to take the tree down today but it’s already 3:30. Yikes where has the day gone????

I started a facebook page Friday. I’m still very undecided if that was the right move or not. For the most part I am a very private person. I guess time will tell if I keep it.

As always thanks for stopping to visit with me for a while. I feel like friends stopping for a cup of coffee, or in my case a raspberry chai. My biggest addiction in life!! My hubby would disagree and say crafting is my biggest addiction. LOL What can I say I have a number of addictions I guess.

Hugs,

M

P.S. We’re looking at the middle to end of Feb for my stove and refrig. They gave us two dates. I’ll be singing “Hallelujah” when I get them. Oh yes, last Friday the furnace quit working. It’s only 18 years old and there are no parts out there. Luckily, they just had to flip a switch and it started up agin. They gave us a bid for a new one. Oh dear!!!

Book Card Box For Drew’s Christmas Card

What an undertaking that turned out to be!!! As I stated in my previous post making the prototype was a job in itself! Converting cm to inches and then trying to find the right size. In the end well worth all the effort! I know my guys are my number one fans! Anything for them!!

There are going to be a lot of pictures. So I’ll chat a little before each pic. The first will be the cover. I guess I was trying to compensate for the fact as a Midwesterner we SHOULD have some snow by now. Instead, it has been raining for 24 hours straight. For now, that’s ok. Drew is done with finals today so will be driving for 7 hours to get home. As soon as he gets home then it can SNOW all it wants. Our weatherman delights in telling us that with the amount of rain we’re getting the 1″+ would be equivalent to 15-20″ of snow. I guess I had that in mind when I did my trees!!! All 15″ landed on my trees!! It even left my hubby speechless! LOL It was a new snow I’ve never used before!!! My excuse and I’m sticking to it! 🙂

Inside left of cover. I used the holly punch as we used to have a gorgeous row of  5′ hollies. One in the middle of the row died and they intertwine so we had to get rid of all of them. 😦

Another pic with the tag out. Drew is majoring in Park Management so thought the trees were perfect. Plus, I love this stamp!

Next is the book part.

The back cover. I love this paper it has my beautiful holly all over it.

I decided I had to make the spine special too. Drew is a big believer in TRADITION so this Tim Holtz token was PERFECT.

Last picture! If you are thinking “what can she possibly have left to take a  picture of?” Proof that it looks like a book!

I do have to say I love this project and will do another one. I’m only going to do a few of the stats since this post is so long.

  • Stamps:  Sitting Boy – Kit 20 – Christmas 4 – hAnglar & stAnglar/Bench – C. C. Designs/Winter Forest – Santa Col ’08 – Magnolia/Tree Group & Merry Christmas – Mini Holidays 2 – TH
  • Papers:  Watercolor paper/All other paper are from a Tim Holtz pad
  • Dies:  Lamppost, Round Carved Ornament w/LOVE & tag – Tim Holtz/Studio Alphabet- QK’s
  • Inks:  Vintage Photo, Bottle & Cranberry – Ranger
  • Fur:  Cotton Ball White – Fun Flock
  • SNOW:  I could not forget that!!! Snow – Tex – DecoArt

If you are still with me I say a BIG THANK YOU!!!

I always appreciate the love that you leave me!!! I have two more cards I HAVE to get done. In case I don’t or you don’t get back here. May you have a Blessed Christmas and a wonderful New Year!!

I want to say a special “Thank You” to my followers for coming and looking and leaving your comments. They are very special to me. Blessings in the New Year!

Hugs to All,

M

A Scary Halloween!

I took an adorable hAnglar and put him in a scary scene for Drew’s Halloween card. I love how it turned out. It was one of those cards I knew what I wanted. It just took some work figuring it all out.

Can’t you just see him pedaling like crazy to get away? All those bats swirling around his head! Just in case you didn’t happen to notice the name on the mailbox.

Drew likes reading Stephen King’s books. Me, not so much! I like to sleep at night!! Drew talked about going to  Bangor, ME to see his house but we didn’t. We should have since the Adirondack’s trip was a bust. It rained the WHOLE DAY. We hardly saw a thing! Anywho, King has an iron fence surrounding his property with bats and spider webs on it. Very cool! I figured what a perfect card to make for him with the reference to Stephen King.

Julie’s Thank You

by Myrna

Emily (Chuck’s wife) asked us what our favorite moment was out in Maine. It was hard to come up with just one thing. Each thing we did was special as we hadn’t done it before. I guess if I have to say something  the boat ride was #1 (Previous post with my love affair with a Hinckley SW70) and #2 was looking for seashells on the beach at Julie’s friends house on the ocean.

My card is everything about that afternoon. The beach with shells, the sailboats on the ocean, the hot sun beating down on our heads. Right down to the adirondack chairs in the yard. She had the regular chairs and then the ones with a curved bottom. I loved that one except for the fact my feet didn’t touch the ground. LOL! They told me I needed a foot stool!!!

Here is my Thank You card for that afternoon.

No, the shells are not my precious picked up ones. I had bought a bag from Michael’s before we went out there. For the most part all our shells made it home in one piece.

I have to say that it is wonderful to go to a strange place and have friends that live there to tell you and show you the ropes. We all thank Emily, Eric, Kate and Julie for all their wonderful hospitality and for treating us like family!! There are many things I’d still like to do. So, who knows maybe someday another trip will be made out there.

As always I thank you for your comments you leave. They are so appreciated!

Stay safe and see you next time.

Thank You For Eric & Kate

by Myrna

Ok, this land-locked Midwesterner totally lost my heart to a Hinckley – SW70!!! While we were in Maine, Eric took us out in his boat for a tour of the Southwest Harbor, Somes Sound and Northeast Harbor area on Mount Desert Island. I found my sail boat there!!! I’ve looked at the Hinckley website and I’ve come to the conclusion that MY sailboat was a custom order. As it looked twice as long as their biggest at 70′! Just GORGEOUS with it hunter green and all that beautiful wood. I can just see myself standing on the deck with the wind blowing my hair as we sail along! I’m in love!!! Now to just figure out where the roughly $10,000,000 will come from to pay for it. Ahhhh, reality STINKS!!!!! The front of the card is for Eric since it has to do with boats. I tucked a map of the area behind the image along with the Tide Table for the day we went on our boat ride.
The inside is for Kate. I used Blueberry Tilda for that. It was around peak blueberry season when we were there. Kate had bought some and made a Blueberry Buckle for dessert the night we were there. Let me tell you they are not the same blueberries we get here in the Midwest!!! We liked them so well that on  our way home we bought two containers of them. Ok, not a brilliant move on our part. Have you tried to get two containers of blueberries 1,600 miles without them getting wet and yet still kept cool!!! In and out of motels and trying to keep the cooler straight in the car. For the most part they survived. Not quite the beautiful berries we bought but still out-of-this-world-delicious!!!
We had a wonderful time in Maine and so appreciated all the time everyone spent with us. Wonderful memories!
Now, if only this land-locked person can get over the love of MY sailboat!!! I dream about it!! Ahhhh!!!!
Ok, enough on to my stats.

Birthday Card For Linda

by Myrna

Just a little update on my birthday card to my cousin Vi. The Rosie with Cake card. A couple posts down. You just got to love family!! She sent me a Thank You card for her birthday card! Also wants to post a thank you when she can get to a computer. Now, that makes all the effort to make a card in colors I know she likes and the trip to the post office to mail it oh so worth it! She puts them on an easel to display them. What a joy to make cards for someone like that. Kudos to you cousin Vi!!!! I did remember but didn’t think of it when I picked the image that my aunt’s middle name was Rose. So made it extra special.

This card is for a friend at Stamp Club whose birthday is in June. I had this image in the back of my mind for her when I bought the stamp. Isn’t that funny how some stamps just speak to you as to whom the card should go to!! I feel that quite often. When there isn’t a human to go with the card I tend to struggle with them more. I like to make the card to what I know someone likes. Enough rambling here’s my card.

LOVE these hAnglar images!!

  • Stamp:  Girl with Flower – Kit 26 – Messenger ’11 – hAnglar & stAnglar
  • Paper:  Ghiradelli Square, Angel Island, Golden Gate Bridge Park – Phoebe 6×6 pad – BG

I never thought I would say this but “pink” is growing on me! LOL It will never replace my “orange” but I can live with it! See, we can all grow and change!

Thanks for visiting and leaving your love!

Have a great weekend! It’s coming soon!

A Birthday Project For My Sis!

by Myrna

I’m going to do some chatting as I don’t want my sis to figure out what her “Birthday Project” is. She hates surprises but one thing she won’t do is look at her cards early.

Just a quick reminder that the Little Darlings Challenge blog is having a contest until the 8th of June. There are awesome prizes so start making those cards ladies!  On June 1st Love to Stamp will be sponsoring the Really Reasonable Ribbon  challenge. On June 3rd Love to stamp is sponsoring the Fussy and Fancy challenge. So have fun and enter some challenges for amazing prizes!

Bev has ALWAYS loved birds, especially robins!! She has many robins around her house in pictures, figurines or what ever she can find that has to do with robins. As soon as I saw the bird house in the very first Magnolia Ink Magazine I knew I had to make it for her. Then along came the perfect stamp to go with it. The hAnglar girl with bird house.

I’m not sure I’ll ever make another bird house. LOL I used swirls to look like vines growing around the bird house. I used the Magnolia heart swirl and on the big sides I was able to combine them to look like a heart. I was sooooo proud of how it turned out until I realized I had glued it to the BOTTOM of the bird house!!! I decided to just put the sentiment on the back instead of making two more swirls.

I did color the shirt on the girl what I thought a robin’s breast color is.

The left side of the roof comes open to get at the candy inside. I used a magnet to keep it closed.

Side view.

Last Easter Project!!

by Myrna Irwin

Whew! I’m finally done for Easter! I have 7-8 hours to clean up my mess before Drew gets home from college for Easter Break. That is if I don’t get calls every few minutes telling me what he’s seeing. A long drive alone so I try not to get exasperated with him! At least the days are staying light longer.

Usually I don’t have a problem with guy cards or projects. Easter to me is soft, pastel colors. That doesn’t seem very masculine to me. I’m not sure how well I succeeded at being masculine. LOL He loves the Mini Cadbury Eggs so I decided to make a Window Treat Box full of candy!!!! Once again I did all my gluing of images, etc before I put the box together. Much easier if you measure everything like I do. The paper had a wide assortment of colors on it so I pretty much used them all!!! None of my beloved orange though. 😦  Once again I used Magnolia/hAnglar combo. They just seem to work together so well.

This is the lid.

Madyson’s Easter Gift Bag!

by Myrna Irwin

I’m pretty sure by now that most of you know I am not a “pink” person. Ever since our Madyson came along I have become a pink person for her. LOL My Easter gift bag for her may just change my mind on pink. NOT!!!! Ok, it did turn out pretty awesome if I do say so myself. LOL I found the tutorial for it here at Nixe Moni’s blog. The only thing I did different is to glue all my “stuff” on the two outsides before I glued the two pockets together. So much easier that way.

This gift bag is not my typical style. I have ribbon and lots (for me) of Wild Orchid Crafts flowers on it. I had so much fun making this bag!! I just wish we could be there to see her face. Oh well, I’m sure I’ll hear all about it. I thought I’d look for a little book to put in one side and some cash in the other side.

I couldn’t decide what stamp and company to use so I used a Magnolia on one and a hAnglar on the other. Enough chit-chatting so here is my gift bag for Madyson.

Here is the other side.

I had a battle with the ribbon on the Magnolia side it just did not want to stay out-of-the-way! It had a mind of its own. Kind of like the little lady this is for. 🙂
