Week 2 DLP Wonderful Memories!

Week 2 for DLP brought back such wonderful memories for me when we went to Maine a few years ago. Week 2 Art Challenge: gesso and the Journal Prompt: “The beginning is always today.” -Mary Shelley. All I used was Dina Wakley’s template Casey & Penelope. Not sure which is which. LOL I wanted a mountain on the bottom of the page so I used super heavy gesso with a palette knife. Loved that technique and the super heavy gesso. Painted the mountain black and wiped burnt umber on it and wiped off some.                                                                             Then I used PanPastels for the rising sun. It didn’t turn out as I expected it to but still like it. Printed a quote on deli paper and applied it to page. I have been having trouble keeping the ink from smearing even dried with dryer and left it over night. Guess next time I’ll try to spray it too and see if that helps.                     Then used the template and black gesso for the woman. It was impossible to spread nice and even when holding the template and having Drew hold too. Too many arms in the way. LOL Although, I do like the rough texture of it.                             Every time we hike to a high spot there is always a bird flying overhead. I love it when I see that. You feel so small in a huge sky. So I had to put a few birds in the sky.                                                                                                                                               I forgot to explain about Maine and this picture. From Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park  is where the first place in North America you can see the sun rise. We heard that so many times before we went out there. We were there a week and I TOTALLY FORGOT that fact and we didn’t get up and go see it!!!! One of my biggest regrets along with not going the summer before when Chuck wanted us to. By the next summer he was no longer with us. We did feel him walking with us when we were there. I could hear his stories as we walked on the trails and places we visited. We did have a wonderful time with Emily and the rest of their grown children that live out there.

Anyway here is my first picture of the two page spread.

Every time I look at this spread I can feel myself up on Cadillac Mountain again.

Thank you for stopping and spending some time with me. Always love your comments and appreciate them!
